Now Marriage Registration Available on Saturdays and Sundays! Certificate to Be Issued on the Same Day

Mumbai: To provide citizens with faster and more convenient services, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a major update in the marriage registration process. From now on, couples can register their marriages on weekends (Saturday and Sunday). In addition, a Fast-Track Marriage Registration Service will also be available from Monday to Friday.
The highlight of both services is that couples will receive their marriage certificate on the same day of registration.
According to BMC, the weekend service will be available between 9 AM and 1 PM. On Saturdays, marriage registrations can be done at 13 ward offices, while on Sundays, registrations will be available at 12 ward offices.
Fees and Procedure
For both new services, couples will need to pay the regular registration fee plus an additional ₹2,500. Once the required documents and fees are submitted, the marriage certificate will be issued on the same day.
Fast-Track Service on Weekdays
From Monday to Friday, out of the 30 daily marriage registration slots in each ward office, 20% (6 slots) will be reserved for the Fast-Track Marriage Registration Service. Couples availing this service will also receive their certificate on the same day.
Starting Date
These new services will come into effect from Sunday, September 21, 2025. Officials believe this initiative will speed up the process and increase the number of registered marriages in Mumbai.
Relief for Citizens
Until now, working professionals and businesspersons often faced difficulties, as they had to take leave from work for weekday registrations. With the new weekend service, citizens can register their marriages without disrupting their work schedules. However, these services will not be available on public holidays.
