Mumbai (MimTimes) To curb incidents of harassment and violence against women, Women and Child Development Commissioner Nina Gunde has directed all government, semi-government and private establishments to strictly enforce the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act. The Commissioner stated that every office or institution with 10 or more employees must mandatorily constitute an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC).

All government departments, semi-government bodies, corporations, municipal councils, government-funded institutions, government companies, as well as private companies, industrial units, service-provider organisations, educational institutions, hospitals, entertainment-sector entities, sports organisations and sports complexes fall under the purview of this mandate.

Commissioner Nina Gunde informed that, under Section 26 of the POSH Act, failure to comply can lead to a fine of up to ₹50,000 on the head of the establishment. In case of repeated violations, the penalty may be doubled, and the licence of the institution may also be cancelled.

She further instructed all establishments to update details of their Internal Committee on the Central Government’s SHe-Box Portal:

Gunde also appealed to citizens that if they visit any office or establishment and do not find an Internal Committee information board displayed, they may lodge a complaint on the Women Helpline 181.
