Mumbai, June 14 – U.S. Consul General Mike Hankey praised the growing partnership between India and the United States in education at the “Mumbai Rising” Letter of Intent (LoI) ceremony held on Friday.
Speaking at the event, he congratulated Illinois Institute of Technology (Illinois Tech) for starting its new campus in Mumbai. He said this move will help bring world-class American education closer to Indian students.
“This new campus shows our strong friendship with India,” said Hankey. “It will give Indian students access to top U.S. degrees in fields like artificial intelligence, data science, computer science, and business – right here in Maharashtra.”
He also thanked the Maharashtra government for supporting this project by giving land for the campus.
Hankey spoke about the strong ties between the two countries, especially in education, science, and technology. He mentioned recent agreements between President Trump and Prime Minister Modi to increase student and university partnerships.
He highlighted other U.S.-India academic collaborations, like the University of Chicago working with IIT Bombay and Ohio State University’s India Gateway. He said these partnerships help create innovation, jobs, and learning opportunities.
“This campus will help Indian students gain valuable skills, join a global network of professionals, and prepare for the future,” Hankey said. He also said he looks forward to more updates on the planned Education City in Navi Mumbai.
The event marked an important step in U.S.-India relations and a bright future for students in both countries.
