New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar told the Lok Sabha that peace in border areas is essential for normal relations between India and China. He highlighted a recent agreement between the two countries to disengage and resolve tensions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

“All friction points at the border have been addressed, and disengagement has been achieved. However, normal ties cannot exist without peace in these areas,” Jaishankar said.

The minister recalled the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes, which caused a major strain on India-China relations. He said these events forced India to rethink its approach to dealing with China.

“Our immediate priority has been disengagement at the border. Going forward, our focus will be on maintaining long-term peace and protecting India’s interests,” Jaishankar added.

This agreement is being seen as a positive step, though experts say trust between the two countries will take time to rebuild.
