Hyderabad: Diljit Dosanjh’s much-awaited concert in Hyderabad turned into a political firestorm after the Telangana government issued a notice asking the singer to avoid songs promoting alcohol, drugs, and violence. The notice also prohibited the use of children on stage during the event. This prompted a strong response from Diljit, who expressed his frustration over what he perceived as discrimination faced by Indian artists.

In a viral clip from the concert, Diljit can be heard saying, "If an artist comes from outside, they can sing whatever they want, but when an Indian artist performs, there’s an issue. Let me tell you, there is God. I won’t let this go." The singer also shared a message in Ahmedabad, offering a bold stance: "If all states declare themselves dry, I won’t sing about alcohol."

The Telangana government's action ignited a political battle, with the BJP accusing the state government of inefficiency. BJP leader NV Subhash criticized the ruling government, pointing to Hyderabad’s nightlife, where pubs stay open late, as proof of the government's failure to control alcohol and drug-related issues. He argued that Diljit's statement was a reflection of the government’s inability to regulate these matters.

In response, Telangana Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu defended the notice, calling it a "precautionary measure." He explained that the government was simply following guidelines to prevent songs promoting substances like alcohol and drugs, ensuring the well-being of society, especially children.

Despite the controversy, Diljit’s 'Dil-Luminati' tour continues to enjoy success, with fans in Hyderabad turning out in large numbers for his performance. This incident highlights the complex intersection of entertainment, politics, and social concerns in today’s India.
