Former Maharashtra Governor S. M. Krishna Passes Away

Mumbai, Dec 10: India has lost a respected leader with the passing of Somanhalli Mallaiah Krishna, former Governor of Maharashtra and former Chief Minister of Karnataka. He was 91.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis paid tribute to Krishna, calling him a leader who dedicated his life to the welfare of the people. "S. M. Krishna worked tirelessly for the betterment of society. He played a key role in the development of Bengaluru and served in many important positions, including as the Governor of Maharashtra and Chief Minister of Karnataka," Fadnavis said. He also praised Krishna's efforts in education and technology, especially in making Bengaluru a hub for IT.
Maharashtra Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan also expressed his condolences, describing Krishna as a man of high taste. "He had a love for literature, tennis, and classical music, and even organized classical music events at Raj Bhavan. He was a cultured leader who upheld the dignity of his office," said Radhakrishnan.
Krishna was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 2023 for his outstanding contributions. His political journey began as a law professor before he entered politics with the Praja Socialist Party. He later became the Union Minister of External Affairs and served as the Speaker of Karnataka’s Legislative Assembly.
Leaders across the country are remembering Krishna for his leadership, wisdom, and cultural contributions. His death marks the end of a distinguished political career, leaving behind a legacy of service to the people.
