Kaliningrad, Russia – 9th December 2024: The Indian Navy will commission its newest multi-role stealth guided missile frigate, INS Tushil, in a ceremony at Kaliningrad, Russia, on December 9. Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh will be the Chief Guest at the event, which will be attended by senior officials from both India and Russia.
INS Tushil is an upgraded version of the Krivak III class frigates. It is the seventh ship in this series, joining six others already in service. The ship is a result of a contract signed in 2016 between the Indian Navy, JSC Rosoboronexport, and the Government of India. Its construction was closely monitored by an Indian team based in Kaliningrad.
The ship has undergone extensive trials, including sea trials and weapon firings, since January 2024. During these trials, INS Tushil achieved impressive speeds of over 30 knots. The ship will arrive in India in near-combat-ready condition.
Named "Tushil," which means "the protector shield," the ship’s crest symbolizes an "impenetrable shield." Its motto, "Nirbhay, Abhedya aur Balsheel" (Fearless, Indomitable, Resolute), reflects the Indian Navy's dedication to protecting the nation's maritime boundaries.
INS Tushil is 125 meters long and weighs 3,900 tons. It combines the latest Russian and Indian technologies, offering improved stealth features and better stability. The ship’s indigenous content has increased to 26%, with systems from Indian companies like BrahMos Aerospace, Bharat Electronics, and Keltron.
Once commissioned, INS Tushil will be part of the Western Fleet under the Western Naval Command. It will be one of the most advanced frigates in the world, showcasing India's growing naval capabilities and the strong India-Russia defence partnership. The commissioning of INS Tushil will mark a significant step in strengthening India’s naval power and safeguarding its maritime interests.
