New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal, former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader, has written a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, expressing serious concerns about the worsening crime situation in the city. Kejriwal pointed out that despite Delhi’s law and order being under the control of the central government, the city is becoming known as the “crime capital” of India.
In his letter, Kejriwal shared alarming statistics, including Delhi ranking first in crimes against women and murder cases among 19 major metro cities. He also highlighted the rise of extortion gangs and a 350% increase in drug-related crimes. He mentioned that airports and schools had received bomb threats, further worrying the city's residents.
“Delhi’s criminals no longer fear law enforcement. Bullets are being fired openly,” Kejriwal said in a post. He also questioned whether anyone had been arrested in connection with the recent bomb threats.
The Aam Aadmi Party has been raising these concerns in Parliament. AAP MPs have repeatedly demanded to discuss the issue in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
On November 19, the Delhi High Court ordered the Delhi Government and Delhi Police to create an action plan to handle bomb threats and similar emergencies. They have eight weeks to complete the plan, which will include clear guidelines for such situations.
With the situation worsening, all eyes are now on Amit Shah’s response to Kejriwal’s letter and the steps the central government will take to improve law and order in Delhi.
