The Supreme Court Collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna, has recommended Justice D. Krishnakumar of the Madras High Court as the next Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court. This recommendation comes ahead of the retirement of the current Chief Justice of Manipur, Justice Siddharth Mridul, on November 21, 2024.
Justice Krishnakumar, who was appointed as a judge of the Madras High Court in April 2016, is the senior-most judge in the High Court and is known for his expertise in Constitutional law. The Collegium highlighted his extensive experience in civil, Constitutional, and service matters, noting his sound legal acumen and integrity.
In its resolution, the Collegium emphasized Justice Krishnakumar’s reputation as a competent and honest judge, and his background as a member of a backward community. He is set to retire in May 2025.
With this recommendation, Justice Krishnakumar is poised to take over as Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court, following the retirement of Justice Mridul later this month.
