Mumbai, Jan 29: Commuters in Mumbai will have to pay higher fares for black-and-yellow taxis and autorickshaws starting February 1, 2025. The State Transport Department has approved the hike due to rising vehicle costs, inflation, and loan interest rates.
New Fare Structure
Black-and-Yellow Taxis (CNG)
Minimum fare: ₹28 → ₹31 (for 1.5 km)
Per km rate: ₹18.66 → ₹20.66
Kulcab Taxis
Minimum fare: ₹40 → ₹48
Per km rate: ₹26.71 → ₹37.2
Autorickshaws (CNG)
Minimum fare: ₹23 → ₹26 (for 1.5 km)
Per km rate: ₹15.33 → ₹17.14
Meter Recalibration Required
Taxi and auto owners must update their meters between February 1 and April 30, 2025. Until then, a revised fare card will be allowed for fare calculation.
More Taxi and Auto Stands for Commuters
To improve passenger convenience, authorities have approved:
2 new taxi stands
68 autorickshaw stands
9 share-auto stands
Fare Calculation Formula
The fare revision is based on the Khatua Committee’s formula, which considers vehicle costs, inflation, and loan interest rates. This formula was adopted by the government in 2020.
Additionally, the transport authority has also renewed licenses for 1,850 BEST buses under the Motor Vehicles Act.
With the fare hike, taxi and auto operators are expected to manage rising costs, while commuters will have to pay slightly more for their daily travel.
