Mumbai (Mim Times):

Public issues in Ward No. 151 have once again come into the spotlight, where the lack of healthcare facilities, the proliferation of illegal hawkers, and the difficulties faced by small businesses have left local residents deeply troubled.

BJP corporator Kashish Rajesh Phulwariya highlighted these concerns during the BMC budget speech. She stated that during his tenure, her father Rajesh Ji had made significant efforts and completed much of the paperwork to establish a health center (hospital) on a health-reserved plot in Ward 151. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the transfer of several government officials, the project slowed down. She demanded that the project be reactivated and the health center be constructed at the earliest, as a large number of middle- and lower-middle-class residents live in the area and the nearest hospitals are several kilometers away.

She further said that the presence of illegal hawkers in the area is a major issue, which disrupts traffic flow. If these hawkers are permanently removed, the traffic problem can be resolved to a large extent.

Kashish Rajesh Phulwariya also expressed concern over the use of newspapers and plastic for food packaging in street food stalls and hotels. According to her, the ink used in newspapers can be harmful to health and may increase the risk of diseases such as cancer, and therefore should be completely banned.

She also highlighted the problems faced by small-scale business operators in Ward 151, including shoe shops, footwear material units, farsan (snack) makers and sellers, idli batter producers, and those involved in making bags and gloves. She stated that the BMC’s licensing department imposes heavy fines and files cases citing the absence of licenses or NOCs, while licenses are not issued even after applications are submitted.

In conclusion, she demanded that the concerned authorities take immediate notice of these issues, prioritize the construction of the health center, take action against illegal hawkers, and simplify the licensing process for small traders so that overall development of the area can be achieved.
