Mumbai: As Mumbai gears up for the upcoming Ganeshotsav festival, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner and Administrator, Shri Bhushan Gagrani, has directed municipal officials to prioritize public cleanliness and road maintenance. During an inspection at Juhu Chowpatty and Vesave (Versova) Chowpatty on Monday, Gagrani emphasized the need for heightened vigilance and proactive measures to ensure the smooth celebration of the festival, which begins on Saturday, 7th September 2024.
Accompanied by Joint Commissioner (Circle - 4) Shri Vishwas Shankarwar and Assistant Commissioner of the Western Division Mr. Chakrapani Alle, Gagrani interacted with local citizens, sanitation workers, security personnel, and lifeguards to assess the on-ground preparations. The Commissioner highlighted the importance of maintaining cleanliness across all areas, including main roads, alleys, slums, and especially on the city's beaches.
“Preparations for this year's Ganeshotsav are being carried out at various levels. We are focusing on critical tasks such as filling potholes, trimming trees, and ensuring efficient sanitation and drainage systems,” said Gagrani. He also mentioned that the BMC has already identified and announced the names of structurally unsafe bridges, and coordination with the police is underway to ensure smooth traffic flow during the festivities.

During his inspection, Gagrani reviewed facilities such as artificial ponds for idol immersion, mobile Nirmalya carriers, drinking water availability, public toilets, parking arrangements, and the deployment of volunteers at immersion sites. He reiterated the need for an eco-friendly celebration and assured that the BMC would provide adequate facilities to support the festival.
The Commissioner concluded by urging all BMC employees and officers to remain active and vigilant throughout the Ganeshotsav period to ensure a successful and safe celebration for all Mumbaikars.
