MEDC Hosts 19th Dr. D. R. Gadgil Memorial Lecture with Key Insights on India's Economic Growth and Future

Mumbai 15October 2024,Under the leadership of Shri. Atul Shirodkar, President of the Maharashtra Economic Development Council (MEDC), the 19th Dr. D. R. Gadgil Memorial Lecture took place on October 15, 2024, at Y. B. Chavan Centre, Mumbai. The event commemorated the legacy of Dr. Dhananjayrao Gadgil, an eminent economist and founder President of MEDC. The lecture drew an impressive crowd of over 350 attendees and featured notable speakers, including Dr. Krishnamurthy Subramanian, Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and Mr. Sundararaman Ramamurthy, MD and CEO of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
Dr. Subramanian delivered a thought-provoking address on "India’s Roadmap to a Developed Economy by 2047." He highlighted the role of startups, entrepreneurship, and wealth generation as key drivers of India's ambitious target of an 8% growth rate. He also emphasized the importance of economic formalization, innovation, and research in achieving this vision. The lecture also paid homage to the Gadgil Formula, which played a vital role in India's economic planning during the Fourth and Fifth Five-Year Plans.
Mr. Ramamurthy, in his address, shed light on the critical role of capital markets and how India's youthful population will drive economic growth in the coming decades. He underscored the increasing importance of entrepreneurship, particularly among women, and the benefits of SME listings on stock exchanges.
The event also saw the unveiling of the logo and teaser for the upcoming Global Entrepreneurs Conclave 2025, which will be held in Pune in partnership with Garje Marathi Global (GMG) and Pimpri Chinchwad Education Trust (PCET).
The lecture concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Ujjwala Haware, MEDC’s State Committee Chairman for Infrastructure and Housing, who expressed gratitude to all the dignitaries and sponsors for their support.
