Washim: A serious incident on the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Highway caused panic on the night of December 29. More than 50 vehicles, including cars and trucks, got punctured after driving over an iron board that had fallen onto the road. The incident took place around 10 pm between the Malegaon and Vanoja toll plazas in Washim district.

This caused a major traffic jam, leaving many commuters stuck on the highway overnight. Unfortunately, no help arrived for a long time, leaving people stranded. Authorities are investigating whether the iron board fell by accident or was placed on purpose.

This incident raises concerns about safety on the Samruddhi Highway, which has already faced criticism. Earlier this year, in June, a deadly accident near Kadwanchi village in Jalna district killed six people and injured four others.

The Samruddhi Mahamarg is a 701-km-long expressway connecting Mumbai and Nagpur. Built at a cost of Rs 55,000 crore, it is one of the country’s largest road projects. While the highway promises faster travel, safety issues like these continue to be a major concern for commuters.
