MUMBAI: A speeding car flew 25 feet into the air after hitting a ramp near the Talasari flyover on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad national highway (NH-48) on Thursday morning. Thankfully, the driver was not injured, and the incident was caught on video, which has gone viral on social media.
The ramp was part of ongoing white-topping work on the highway. The driver claimed the ramp was not clearly visible, leading to the accident. However, Sumit Kumar, General Manager (Technical) of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), PIU Thane, disagreed. "We have installed ramps and warning signs like 'Go Slow' and 'Ramp Ahead,'" he said. He also mentioned that traffic is being controlled lane by lane during the work.
Since NHAI began road concreting earlier this year, many motorists have complained about missing signs, uneven surfaces, and lack of dividers along the 121-kilometer stretch from Dahisar to Achhad, near the Gujarat border.
The incident highlights the need for more safety measures on the highway. Authorities are urging drivers to be cautious in construction zones to prevent accidents.
